I have a friend, a retired Army reserve Major (21+ years), who informed me that he had to choose between military retirement and social security, depending on the higher amount and would only get the offsett of the higher, but would not be eligible for both. ...and he informed me that the same applied to me. I was active duty Navy for 25.5 years and am now a federal employee with retirement eligibility under FERS. I expecting to receive all three retirements (Federal and Social Security when I choose). Am I missing something here? Shouldn't my friend be eligible to receive both, reserve retirement at age 60 AND qualifying social security benefits? Thanks.
